Getting started

What do I need to use Tether?

An iPhone or iPad running iOS 26.4 or later. To sync between your devices or share a path, you also need to be signed in to iCloud. On its own, Tether works fully offline.

Do I need to create an account?

No. Tether uses the iCloud account already on your device. There's no sign-up, email or password.

What's a path?

A path is a timeline with one person, or a few: your partner, your mom, your best friend. Each path has its own memories and its own people, and the timeline shows one at a time. Swipe sideways or tap the names at the top to move between them, and use New path in that menu to make another.

Sharing

How do I invite someone to a path?

Tap the names at the top of the timeline and choose Invite, or open Settings, pick the path and tap Invite someone. Send the link in Messages. Once they open it on their iPhone or iPad with Tether installed, you'll both see and add to that path, and only that one.

My invite didn't work. What should I check?

Most invite problems come down to iCloud. Check that:

  • you're both signed in to iCloud in the Settings app,
  • you both have the latest version of Tether,
  • they opened the link on the device where Tether is installed.

If it still fails, Tether shows the reason. Send a new invite from Settings, and if you're stuck, email me what it says.

Who can see my memories?

Only the people on the path they're in. Each path is shared separately, so someone on one path never sees your others. Animus Games can't see any of it. See the privacy policy.

How do I leave a path, or stop sharing one?

Open Settings and pick the path. If you started it, tap Stop sharing; if you were invited, tap Leave path.

Memories

How do I edit or delete a memory?

Open the memory and tap the ••• button at the top, then choose Edit or Delete.

How do milestones work?

Turn on Count the days when you write or edit a memory. The top of the path then shows how many days it's been since that day, or how many are left until it. With more than one milestone, tap the counter to move between them.

How do reactions work?

Open a memory and tap one of the emoji under the title. The other people on the path see it on their phones. Tap it again to take it back.

What does Ping do?

Ping buzzes the people on the path you're looking at, through iCloud. The button appears once someone has joined the path. It usually arrives within seconds, though iOS may hold it back in Low Power Mode. You can turn Ping off in Settings.

Sync, storage & data

A new memory isn't showing on their phone.

Both phones need an internet connection, and iOS sometimes delays background updates. Opening Tether fetches the latest; you can also tap Sync now in Settings. If memories still don't arrive, make sure you're both signed in to iCloud.

Who pays for photo storage?

Memories are tiny, but photos take space. They count toward the iCloud storage of whoever started the path (the person who sent the invite). If that storage is full, syncing pauses and Settings explains why. The app keeps working and catches up once there's room.

How do I export my memories?

Open Settings and choose Export as text for a readable copy, or Export data (JSON) for a complete, structured one.

What happens when I get a new iPhone?

Sign in to the same iCloud account and install Tether. Your paths and memories sync back down.

How do I delete my data?

Delete memories or whole paths in the app, or remove Tether's iCloud data from your device's Settings › [your name] › iCloud. The privacy policy has the details.
